Cat Reaction Kansas City, Missouri I have an aunt that used to live in Kansas City. About five years ago, I flew to Missouri to visit her. Now, her house was an older plantation-style house, which had been divided into two halves, duplex style, and my aunt lived in one half. I was sitting in a reading room on the second floor, adjacent to one of the sealed doors that separated the two "apartments", and my aunt's cat was sitting in my lap. All of a sudden, the cat began arching its back and hissing in a way that I had never heard. It was terrified, but refused to leave or be consoled. I looked around for what was bothering the cat, but we were alone in the room. Then I took a deep breath, and almost choked. I could smell a very strong, very putrid perfume. It was almost over- whelming...It seemed as if the air in the room was getting tight, as it the pressure was increasing. I looked at my aunt's cat, which was still going crazy. Its attention seemed to be wandering to various parts of the room. At one point, the cat grew frantic, backing away from whatever it sensed, and screeching loudly. By this time, I was covered in goose bumps, my heart was pounding, and I could almost feel my hair turning gray. Eventually, the cat calmed down, the smell seemed to weaken and finally vanish, and the room "felt" empty once again. When my aunt came upstairs and looked at me, she saw my hair standing on end, and at first was shocked. Then she seemed to realize what happened and said, "Did my cat introduce you to our ghost?"

Little Girl Mary's grandparents had a house in the Ozarks of Missouri, and owned many acres of land. Mary's family decided to build a house about 100 yards from the grandparents'. As a little girl Mary would often become very frightened when visiting them. Her aunt was old, and used to talk of "the white lady" who was visiting her or setting the dining room table. The family passed it off as senility. It began with small things. Sounds of foot steps and doors opening on their own. "Wind" and the house settling, her parents told her, but it was a new house. When Mary would be sitting alone the hair on her neck would prickle, her skin would get cold, her ears would ring, and a sickening perfume would fill the air. It was one afternoon when she was home alone when these things first began. She felt that she was being watched, and she looked up to see a little girl peeking around the corner of the hall into the living room where she sat. She had on an old fashioned dress, and straight hair. She was like a brownish drawing, almost like she had been etched in the air, yet three dimensional. Like a typical junior high school kid, Mary would have friends over, but after several of them were awakened by "clammy hands" and a "lady in white" they didn't want to come over any more. Mary began to believe her aunt. But she didn't understand why these people were in her house. Her family moved after her parents divorced, and her mother rented the house out. A year later the renters moved saying that the house was possessed.

Ghost Happenings (True Encounters) - Submitted by Lone-Gunman My house is Haunted, and I firmly believe that we have two ghost here. One I believe to be my mother and the other is an evil presence. I feel my mom is here protecting me from this evil presence. I was born at the strike of midnight and have been told and I feel that I am sensitive to the paranormal, I really noticed this when I nearly passed away from Heat Stroke. My house has a long history and was built back in the 1920's. The Owners that sold us the house, their mother died while living here in the house. We are unsure if she passed away here in the house or not. My mother passed away in 1985 and we were experiencing strange occurrences even before that. The smell of fruit, perfume and terrible odors have been detected throughout the house on various occasions and the sound of footsteps, as they made their way in the front hall. I feel my sisters room is the heart of the house, I feel such a strong suffocating feeling when ever I am in there. But the strange happenings didn't really start to get bad until after mom passed away. Now, don't get me wrong, my house is not Halloween everyday. Just keep in mind that this has been happening for the last 15 years. I have tried on several occasions to capture E.V.P.'s and have only succeeded once. I have also taken photos throughout the house trying to capture spirit energy on film. I got several photos from within my train room and one in a mirror of spirit energies. To give just a few instances of what has happened in the house. I will tell you a few: Once again the smell of Fruit, my mothers perfume and terrible odors have been smelled throughout the house. On different occasions, I have seen things fly across the room, and my mothers apparition has appeared to me and my father. Once a jar of peanut butter was sitting on the table between my Dad and I. We watched as the lid of the jar unscrewed, flew off and landed about 3 feet away. Cabinet doors will open by unseen hands, pictures have jumped off the wall, and once while sleeping, I felt a hand on my hip shaking me and there was a very cold air in the room. Sometimes you can see a dark shadow moving around the house and it is usually followed by a cold feeling and a foul smell. There are times you can leave the house and upon returning, you hear voices. I cannot make out what the voices are saying, for they are muffled. We also hear the music of harps and chimes and my dads piano playing. I have also reached for the doorknob, only to have the door open to meet my hand. My friends have felt my mothers presence in the house, when they come over. So you see, there have been many ghostly occurrences in my home over the last 15 years. I wanted to share these with you and your guest of Missouri Ghost Hunters Society.

The Warning (True Encounter)- Submitted by PrincessJB I was at my friends house out in the country, he and I were chatting about things we have experienced or felt with the unexplained. Some things had happened in his house with me there before, such as a tooth brush jumping out of the cup, just to let us know we were not alone. I started to feel something that I had never felt before. I felt as though the entity in the house was reaching out to me. I was feeling emotions that were not my own. But I got scared and shut a wall in-between myself and the entity. I didn't know what to do. My friend told me to relax and let it go naturally. I tried to relax more, but no other feelings or emotions came to me at that time. When I left my friends house, it was very early in the morning, and I was very tired. Being a Woman I looked in the back seat when I first got into the car. With nothing there I drove off, only to put the light on and check again a bit farther down the road. I felt as though I was NOT ALONE! I brushed it off and started to sing to the radio to take my mind off of the feeling. About half way home, I was coming up to a curve in the road. I got a feeling in the back of my neck. As though fingers had griped the hairs at the scalp. I have NEVER had this feeling before or since. ( as well, the feeling wasn't uncomfortable. The energy that was within my energy field was not foreign. It felt congenial to me ). I straightened up in my seat and said " all right, I will take that as a hint and pay attention! " I saw a car coming along the road that had just turned the corner. It straightened out and was going straight. Then it started to go across the line a bit. I moved over a little. I wasn't alarmed yet, some people drive like that, going over the line. No problem. Then the driver must have over corrected the wrong way, the nose of his car was suddenly facing my car. I swerved, and braced myself for impact. The nose of the car had moved so much that I was sure I was going to be hit. I must have swerved out of the way enough, because I was not hit at all!!! I watched in the rearview mirror as the car went onto the shoulder on my side and then went back onto his/her side. The funny thing is, is that he/she turned the car around and started coming after me! I drove home so fast, I was so scared. He/she never caught up. I have never speeded and WANTED a police officer to pull me over before or since!

Dark Figures and the Knocking Visitor, Submitted by Greenthumbs My mother's parents still live on an old farm outside a small village in Germany. Aside from a farm, it used to be a tavern with lodging until the turn of the century. The area has a rich history. Napoleon rested his troops on the fields surrounding the house and battles were fought there during the 30-year war. When I was little, visiting was always fun. There were huge gardens and fields to go exploring in. But there was also a dark side. Sitting in the kitchen by the window, you frequently saw a tall, dark figure of a man walk by, always in the same direction - towards the farmyard. His figure was very clear. He was tall, had dark hair and walked with a stoop and a peculiar gait. I never saw his face. My mother tells me that it sounds like my great-grandfather, who passed away before I was born. My grandmother died in '98. On the day of their wedding anniversary, my grandfather sat alone at dinner when he noticed a dark figure walk through the room and stop at the foot of the table. He said the figure was very obvious, and when he said "Mother, is that you?" the figure vanished. About 2 months ago, my mother told me that my grandfather had had another encounter with "something". While lying in bed at night and still very much awake, a distinctive and loud knocking came from inside the wardrobe. It knocked 3 times. It startled my grandfather, but he did not get up to investigate. A few minutes later, it knocked again. This went on for about 10 minutes. Mom said that grandmother's clothes are still in the wardrobe, and the bed in which she died is the same one in which my grandfather still sleeps.

Heavy Footsteps, Submitted by Greenthumbs I grew up in an old house in a very small village in Germany. According to church records, the house was built in the late 1600's. During its lifetime it had been used as a farm and a pub. It has seen many residents. The house was divided so that it could comfortably accommodate 2 families. My grandfather and his girlfriend lived in the front part of the house, and we occupied the back half. Our bedrooms were on the 2nd floor. Above the bedrooms were what used to be a hayloft and granary, still with their original mud and straw floorings. It was now used for storage. It also had a secret room, accessible only with a ladder. Many nights we were woken from our sleep by heavy footsteps coming from the hayloft, directly above our bedrooms. My mother and I were the only ones who admitted to hearing the nightly walker. On other nights, I would wake up to a little boy standing at the foot of my bed, dressed in old and tattered clothes, a tall and fearsome looking man standing behind him. There were many things about this house which made me uncomfortable as a child. I'm glad I don't live there anymore. Any skeptics who doubt that ghosts exists should spend time in some old European houses. They have the age and history to hold many secrets and bind those who are not ready to leave.

The Watery Figure, Submitted by Marilyn P This experience happened to my husband, Gerald, just last week in our house. One night he was having trouble sleeping so he went into the living room to watch TV till he got tired. Around 2:00 or 2:30 in the morning he came back into the bedroom and got into bed. The only light on in the house was a night light in the bathroom which adjoins to our bedroom. After he got into bed, he looked straight ahead and to the right about 10 feet he saw a figure standing beside the desk (the bathroom with the night light was to Gerald's left). The figure appeared to be shimmering and watery looking from the light reflecting from the night light. As he watched, the figure moved to my side of the bed and stood looking down at me (I was asleep). Gerald got the feeling it was trying to see if my eyes were open as it was fairly dark by the bed. The figure then extended itself over the bed from where it was standing as if to look at Gerald's face. He shot his right arm up right through the figure and felt a tingling sensation. It then gradually faded away. The only feature he could make out was it appeared to have longer wavy hair. Our house is only about 20 years old and there have been no other occupants. We do live on a small mountain with a spectacular view.

Our House Submitted by: Theresa I've read just about every corner of your web site and although I enjoy the stories, I can only truly believe what happens first hand. In the Spring of 1986, my new husband and I moved to Cass County MO with our newly put together family. Within the first week in the old house, circa 1888, we started to realize that we weren't the only ones "living" there. We were sitting in the living room one night and watched a man walk down the hall. When my husband got up to see who it was, there was nobody there. Later that week a man about 6 feet tall passed me in the living room and proceeded to walk out through the wall. There was a lady who walked down our stairs and a man who went up the upper stairs that used to lead to the attic and up to the widow's walk. He would also come sit on the bed at night and enter the bedrooms at about 3:00 AM. People think that you should be or would be scared but it's not at all like that. It was more a feeling of relief when you see them. More like there are just a few other people in the house. We mentioned this to the prior owners and they then admitted that they had seen them too but didn't want us to be prejudiced against the house when they were actually there first and not a problem. We found out the one was most certainly Virgil who took his own life in the well in 1910. His great grandson paid us a visit one day and confirmed it. When the time came to sell the house things regularly started up again. Things broke that shouldn't have...things that had never worked, did. And I had to tell Virgil that we had to sell, please stop. He did. I also promised to find someone that was tolerant of "the others" and I kept my promise.
