One of the most requested topics in e-mails that we get are Hauntings. The questions vary, but in general, they pretty much ask the same questions. We will try to cover as much as we can about hauntings. First we should discuss what locations are open to hauntings.
- · Old Houses - Anytime you have old run down houses, or just old houses in general, you will more then likely find a lot of history behind that house. In this history you will probably find within it's past, some traumatic event, deaths, etc. that would draw the energy of ghost to that location.
- · Cemeteries - Up till about 10 to 15 years ago, cemeteries were never thought to be haunted and Paranormal Investigators would never had investigated these locations. Lets face it, who would want to come back and haunt a cemetery? No many, that's for sure. But, why are they haunted now? Well, evidence is showing that these cemeteries offer a portal from their world to ours. If you look at it, where else could you find a perfect location for a portal. Now Portal Hauntings are not the only kind in cemeteries. You have other reasons that would constitute a haunting no matter what location.
- · Battlefields - This type of location offers everything from traumatic deaths, lost loves, high energy and so much more.
- · Hospitals & Care Centers - These places again offer sudden deaths, deaths, high energy, etc. Anytime you have these elements together, you have a ideal location for a haunting.
- · Death Sites - This could range from Murder locations, Traffic Accident locations were someone lost their life, Suicides, Natural Cause Death sites, etc. These locations again offer elements that would draw spirit energy.
- · Churches - These locations offer High energy in which people gather for funerals, this energy can draw the spirits. There are also many reports of the once living nuns, priest, etc. haunting their church that they attended in the living years.
- · Theaters - The passion of being a star and being on that strange to entertain is a pretty strong energy. A lot of spirits are drawn to these locations. The energy of once being on that stage appears to draw them back after they have passed on. You get stage hands, managers, actors and actresses and those that worked on the set. These people come back to where they held this passion.
- · Castles - In my opinion, this would fit into the same category as "Old House", but with some added events. For Castles not only offered the history behind their existence, but most offered places of torture, death and a prison.
- · Now don't get us wrong, these are not the only places that can be haunted. This is just a simple list guideline of places and reasons for possible haunts. Any place, any location and any object can be haunted. You just have to have something present to pull these spirits to that location. This can be a hard thing to determine. Especially if it is just a Love for the location by a ghost.
- Once we have a general idea as to what locations can be haunted, we must look into what type of spirits or spirit energies haunt these locations. In addition, we must look at other possibilities.
- · Residual Haunting - This type of haunting is like that of a VCR. It generally occurs at the same time every time and is the same scene over and over. There will be no interaction, for the spirits don't even see you. Like a VCR you watch the movie, rewind it, then watch it again. Nothing in the movie ever changes, it is always the same thing. Nothing you can say or do can change the movie. These are basically impressions in time that has imprinted itself in the atmosphere of the place haunted. These hauntings usually involves a visual sighting of a past traumatic event the occurred at that location. This is only a piece of time.
- · The Classic Haunting - is the spirit of a once living person, that for some reason did not cross over at the moment of death. Unlike the Residual Haunting, the Classic Haunting involves a spirit that Can interact with you and vice versa. But, the spirit can not always be seen, for a classic haunting involves all of our senses. Such as smell, Touch, sounds, and sightings. You could smell the perfume that the person once wore in the living years, a rush of cold air as the spirit nears you, a strong feeling of someone watching you or in the room with you, a slight touch on your shoulder by unseen hands, phantom voices and sounds, So just remember, just because you don't see them, doesn't mean that they are not there, etc.
- · Positive Energies - These are the same energies as a "Classic Haunting", but show signs of positive energies, such as non violent. The best way to describe this is to say: If you were a caring person in the living years, when you pass on, you will carry that personality with you in the after life.
- · Negative Energies - Now again the same as a "Classic Haunting" but with a change in personality. This type of energy could have been a bad and uncaring person in the living years and when they pass on, they carried that personality trait with them. These type of energies often get miss judged as Evil or Malevolent spirits. This is because of their actions and lack of caring of these spirits.
- · Evil Spirits - These spirits are talked about in our Demons and Devil Page. These spirits can be violent, but Please Refer to the link for further information on them
- · Angels - Again, there is a section in the FYI Section about Angels. Please refer to those areas to read more information about them.
- · Portal Hauntings - These type of hauntings occur where ever a portal is. Often signs of a portal haunting are Strange lights, mysterious fog or mist, strange creatures, numerous Orbs, and phantom sounds.
- · There are of course, other then locations, objects that can be haunted. Object such as, Paintings, Appliances, TV, etc. The list goes on. I would have to say, the spirit was drawn to this particular object and had a strong connection with it, causing the spirit to be drawn to it and therefor haunting it. One such classic example would be the Haunted Portrait at the famous historical San Carlos Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona. We investigated this hotel and examined this portrait. Reports by guest claim that the eyes in this portrait move. They don't appear to move, but they actually move. Numerous guests had checked out of that room because of this fact.
