Matthew 6:14-15
If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Joplin, Missouri - Hornet Spook Light

a_P1010009

Looking down Devil's Promenade road in the direction that the Hornet Spook Light appears, Mike is checking out the area.

05 May 2001 - Missouri Ghost Hunters Society (Brian, Linda, Mike and our Son Daniel) Headed out to Joplin, MO to experience the sighting of the Hornet Spook Light. Following directions that were obtained from the Internet, we attempted to locate the area. All the directions we found on the Internet were way off and like others we spent over an hour trying to locate the exact area. So before we go any further, here is the correct directions to the Hornet Spook Light.
Take I-44 West from Joplin. Just before the Oklahoma boarder, take Highway 43 South. Go on 43 for 6.3 Miles until you come to Iris, turn right on Iris and go until the road comes to an end in a "T" intersection. This is State line road. Turn right and go to the second graveled left road, which is East 50 Road. This is Devil's Promenade Road, as the nick name was given to it. Go down this road for about 1/2 to 1 mile and find a place to park
We arrived at about 5:00 P.M. with plenty of daylight to get a lay of the land. We talked with a local elderly couple that had a farm on that road and was not surprised by what they had to say about the Hornet Spook Light. The ditches that run along both sides the entire roadway were filled with garbage, beer bottles, etc. So we had a good idea how they felt. Their complaints were mainly about local teens that come out and party, litter, get drunk and make no attempt to clean up after themselves. So if you ever do go to the Hornet Spook Light and arrive early, please bring a few trash bags and maybe pick up some while you are there. For if this activity continues, this wonder that drives people to travel hundreds of miles to see, might end up being closed.
Not long before dark the cars stated to come. Most had been there before, for there appeared to be an unwritten way of doing things out there. People drove with their parking lights on to be polite as not to shine there headlights in your eyes. Even in the daylight, what appeared to be locals, would wave their hand in a friendly gesture.

As darkness sets in, more cars pull along side the road to see the Hornet Spook Light. Even when we left at 1:30 A.M. dozens and dozens of cars were there parked along side the road as they waited to see this mysterious light.

A couple from Rolla, MO pulled behind us and as we talked, they told us of a friend who use to live out here. They continued to tell us that this friend reports seeing the light at just about every trip out there.
We waited along the side of the road, watching with eager eyes, in hopes of seeing this mysterious light. Time passed on and cars would come and go. After being there for over 8 hours, we decided to head out for the night, so we left there at about 1:30 A.M. Nobody seen the Hornet Spook Light and many were still coming and going at 1:30 A.M.
Although we did not see the Hornet Spook Light this night, many locals that arrived swears that the light is real and is almost always there. So we will not give up and we will attempt to see the Hornet Spook Light again. For we will head out again yet this month and attempt to bring you photos, Film footage of the mysterious light.
One thing we will say! What people we met that night were very polite and friendly. Cars come and go in almost a constant burst 2 or 3 at a time. Many were repeat seers of the Spook Light. So armed with this information, we will head out again.

Please be polite and keep the area clean and if you do arrive early, bring a trash bag or two along and help keep the area clean. In order for people to continue to try to see this wonder, we must pitch in and clean up and respect the area we are visiting.
Keep watching this page, for we will go out to the Hornet Spook Light again and try to provide you with photos or film footage of this mysterious light.
