This online report is intended as a brief synopsis of paranormal events that unfolded or was founded to accompany the investigation of the following location. This is only a brief synopsis of events and by no means entails an in-depth account of all activities, encounters or experiences of the paranormal or actions taken by the investigating agency. This is intended as an information report to assist those that are suffering from a haunting or ghost sighting and is for those who seek support and understanding of haunts.

In addition to photos and Evp's, other evidence collected was recorded in the report as influx in Geo Magnetic fields which indicted energy fluctuations that supports spirit energy. These readings are in direct correlation to data collected by this agency and those others that utilize EMF meters and the evidence collected falls within the area identified as spirit energy present. Thermal probes and scanners indicated several drops in temperatures that were such a drastic change that no normal or realistic explanation other then the paranormal could be given. They fell within the parameters and data supporting such changes and would indeed lean toward that of the paranormal. These readings were present and noted in this investigation.

On 1 November 2004 Brian and Linda had the opportunity to investigate Mad Dawg & Mel’s Bar & Eatery in Payson Arizona. After meeting with Mad Dawg and Mel a few days prior, we arranged the date of 1 November 2004 to investigate paranormal events that had been occurring on a regular basis. Mad Dawg & Mel’s is known as the old Journagan house and now is a very respectable Bar & Eatery. Strange happenings have been reported by the owners, employees and guest since May of 2003. It started as Mad and Mel were seated at a booth when they both witnessed this black cloud pass by them. Not long after this incident, everyone started to notice strange events such as “Children Laughing”, when nobody was there. Lights going on and off by themselves in the middle of the night. A steel fire door creaking open and closing by itself. A times when they arrive in the morning, different machines, coffee pots, etc. had been turned on during the night, while the owners had verified that they had been turned off the night before. The most noticeable event that has brought all those at Mad Dawg & Mels to the point of believing what they have is a haunt was when one day Mad was standing in the kitchen with her back to a shelf where they keep their sauces. When all the sudden an A-1 sauce flies across and lands a counter in front of Mad, and there was nobody around. This event would happen to several different people at different times and it is always just the A-1 sauce that takes flight. Never any of the other sauces such as Heinz 57, Tabasco, soy and Worcestershire sauce is thrown from the shelf by unseen hands. One final event finally made all of the employee’s believe that they did indeed have an active haunt was when servers kept coming to Mad and Mel with checks they had put on the computer, every check had chocolate on them, hot chocolate.. The employee’s would wonder how the chocolate got on any of the tickets when no guest had had any chocolate. This happened every single day for two weeks straight.
Mad Dawg and Mel had finally brought in a Psychic who had confirmed that there was active spirits in the building. But what really made the hair on the back of their neck stand up was when the psychic told them that one of the spirits likes Hot Chocolate.
So with this reported and recorded paranormal events, Linda and I arrived at Mad Dawg & Mel’s in which both Mad and Mel, along with Jim Keyworth of the Payson Roundup Newspaper had met us just inside the door. Jim, Mad, Mel, Linda and I conducted a walk through of the building and ended up in the upper employee’s room. We were standing there and Brian was holding the Trifield Natural Meter, our conversation was about one of the spirits who likes hot chocolate. Each time the words “Hot Chocolate” was spoken the Trifield Natural Meter would spike to 4 Microteslas or more indicating a significant change in the Geomagnetic field. This type of spike is often believed and associated with a presence of a spirit. This continued during the entire conversation about hot chocolate
Jim Keyworth finished the interview and left leaving Brian, Linda, Mad and Mel to continue with the walk through. Linda and I interviewed Mad and Mel. Soon Mad would have to leave, for she had to come and open the restaurant in the morning. So leaving just Brian, Linda and Mel, Mad left for the evening.
Mel went into her office for a few minutes, after just a few minutes later, Brian and Linda was walking by a door that leads up to the upstairs room, when all the sudden there was 6 loud distinctive knocks on that door. You could tell by the sound that they were made with the knuckle of the hand. There was nobody upstairs that could have knocked on the door, so Linda and I knew what we had just witnessed. This paranormal event would be the starting point for numerous events such as the knocking door that the spirits of Mad Dawg & Mel’s would do to get our attention.

The above photo shows the Bar area at where on two occasion’s throughout the night, a bar stool was heard dragging across the floor. When we came into the bar from around the corner, we would find a bar stool had been dragged out from the bar about 3 feet. The two above photos show the Trifield Natural Meter with a probe attached to it. If you look at the first photo, notice how the meter is in align with the salt and pepper shakers and notice how the cord is bent up in front of the meter. Then look at the second photo and you will clearly see that the meter has been pushed back and the cord is no longer standing in front of the meter. A few times during the investigation we heard the Trifield Natural Meter tone activate, indicating a change in the Magnetic Field. Then when we came from around the corner to check it out, we would find that the meter had been moved by unseen hands. This would happen when all three of us was away from the bar area and nobody else was in the building. Also note that the meter audio tone would rise and when we would make our way to check it out, the meter would be moved from its original spot each time.

We continued to monitor our equipment and take photos. At one point Linda and I were checking out the Video Camera in the Kitchen. As we turned to walk away from the kitchen. There was a loud crashing of dishes. We both turned toward the sound and found nothing out of order.
Brian went into the upper dinning area near the old kitchen to enter some notes into the lap top computer. While Brian was entering the notes, he felt someone in front of him. Brian then looked up to see a dark outline of a man of 6 feet in height standing in front of him. Then the dark figure faded quickly. It must also be noted, that there were no lights on up there and the only light source was the glow of the lap top screen of the computer which illuminated the man standing in front of Brian.
Brian, Linda and Mel were in the hallway near the front doors when the distinct sound of footsteps walking was coming from the end of the hall near the Old Kitchen. We all looked and could see nobody there, but the disembodied phantom footsteps could still be heard.
We went into the bar area to take a break. As we sat there, the table with the stationary Trifield Natural Meter was just about 15 feet away from where we were sitting. The Meter audio tone began to spike and upon investigation the meter was spiking to about 4 Microteslas indicating a change in the Magnetic field. This meter would spike to that area for the next 4 minutes, spiking and then going back to zero. The feeling of not being alone in the room was very strong. Then as soon as the meter started in its spiking, it slowly faded back to zero.
After our break we were in the hallway just outside the bar area, when all three of us heard a man and woman talking in the bar. We all looked that way knowing nobody else was in the building. We slowly walked toward the conversation, like a deer hunter would walk in the woods, taking one or two steps then stopping to listen. When we made it all the way into the bar, the voices would stop. But then just as soon as we got just outside the bar area in the hall, the voices would start again. As we listened, we could not make out what they were saying, but we could hear the voices and could tell that they were male and female. Even at one point, we heard music coming from that area as well. We stood in the hall, not but a couple of feet from the bar area and just listened to the talking and music. At a couple of points we heard loud crashing noises that could not be identified, but we just stood there and soaked up the excitement of a conversation being held by the unseen.
At one point during the night as Linda and I were up in the upstairs room, you could just look over your shoulder and see the stairway leading down. We both were talking when we heard loud, very loud crashing at the bottom of the steps. We both turned and saw nothing, just the empty stairs that we had climbed up to get to the room. I must note that this is out of order from the events of this investigation, but I had forgotten to put this part in earlier in the write-up, so I am adding near the end of the investigation accounts. So now I will get back to the disembodied voices coming from the bar.
We continued to take photos and listen to the male and female voices. This went on for another 30 minutes or so, then we decided to call it a night. So with this, we began to pack up the gear and it was now time to start going through the many hours of video tape, audio tape and photos.
Now before we go any further, Linda and I must extend a word of thanks and gratitude to Melanie McCarthy and Madeline Manchio, owners of Mad Dawg & Mel’s, for their hospitality and kindness they freely gave to us. Not only did we get a chance to help them out, but we feel we have met some pretty good friends. We look forward to our next Arizona trip so we can stop by and see them. Now let me also state that before the investigation there, we had the opportunity to have dinner there and also attend their annual Halloween party. First and foremost, the food was GREAT and it is a very comfortable place to eat. Then the party was a blast and the people there attending the party, those delightful residents of Payson, were very kind and polite to us. We want to thank Mad Dawg & Mel’s, Plus the residents of Payson for their kind hearts and warm welcome to Payson.

Mad Dawg and Mel stated they would keep us up to date on the paranormal events that happen there and when they do, we will put them here on this page for you to see the updates. Maybe when we return to Arizona again, we can have the opportunity to investigate Mad Dawg & Mel’s again.
It is sad to report that Mad Dawg and Mel’s has closed their doors and another food establishment has moved in and opened their doors. We will miss the hospitality of the owners of Mad Dawg & Mel’s.
