Joan Gilbert, author of most of the Mogho Books, has been a full-time freelance writer for several decades, doing mainly nonfiction for periodicals. Most frequent topics have been animals, Missouri history, rural living and nature. She also has sold many book reviews and a little poetry. Two national publishers bought and published her novels and the University of Missouri Press bought her nonfiction book, The Trail of Tears Across Missouri. Joan had a substantial role in compiling The Extended Circle, a collection of animal-loving quotations published in England. She has won 25 first place awards in writing contests on national, regional and state levels.
Joan's latest enterprise has been self-publishing and she says she is very happy with the success of Missouri Ghosts, Second Edition, and More Missouri Ghosts, published in 2000 and 2001, respectively. They are paying for her current projects, a book called Missouri Horses, Gift to a Nation, and a collection of poems. Joan Gilbert was born and reared in Dixon, MO, and earned her BS at what was then the state college at Springfield. She lives now near Hallsville, Boone County MO, with many books, trees and pets.
