Legend claims local murder site
still haunted by spirit

10/31/03
Justin Baldwin

Around 30 years ago, the body of a pregnant young woman named Leeann was found under a bridge along a lonely dirt road near the Vernon-Cedar County line. She had been savagely murdered and rumor had it that the murder was tied to satanic worship practices. In the years since Leeann's murder people have reported seeing her form walking the bridge where her body had been found. This alleged supernatural occurrence caught the attention of the members of the Missouri Ghost Hunters Society, who, in the summer of 2002, undertook an investigation of the site. Brian Lile, President of the Missouri Ghost Hunters Society said that they had set up several EMF's, a device used to measure geomagnetic waves, and when they would address the spirit of Leeann their instruments would spike upward. "Every time we would try to talk to Leeann, saying 'Leeann it's OK, you can go home now' immediately the meter would spike," said Lile. When such a spike occurred, the investigators would snap a photograph—and in several instances anomalies appeared in these photos. Most of the photo anomalies were strange orbs but one picture showed a light source about 10 to 15 feet off the ground, above the bridge. According to Gregory Powell, Intern Paranormal Investigator, after Leeann had disappeared authorities had been unable to find her body until her grandfather had received a vision from beyond giving him the exact location of the corpse. "There are spirits there," said Lile. "When we went down to do the investigation we saw a shadow underneath the bridge move and got some photographs." For readers curious enough to investigate Leeann's bridge they should take a left at the new Sinclair gas station just this side of El Dorado Springs and go a short way until the road crosses a small concrete box culvert.
