This online report is intended as a brief synopsis of paranormal events that unfolded or was founded to accompany the investigation of the following location. This is only a brief synopsis of events and by no means entails an in-depth account of all activities, encounters or experiences of the paranormal or actions taken by the investigating agency. This is intended as an information report to assist those that are suffering from a haunting or ghost sighting and is for those who seek support and understanding of haunts.

In addition to photos and Evp's, other evidence collected was recorded in the report as influx in Geo Magnetic fields which indicted energy fluctuations that supports spirit energy. These readings are in direct correlation to data collected by this agency and those others that utilize EMF meters and the evidence collected falls within the area identified as spirit energy present. Thermal probes and scanners indicated several drops in temperatures that were such a drastic change that no normal or realistic explanation other then the paranormal could be given. They fell within the parameters and data supporting such changes and would indeed lean toward that of the paranormal. These readings were present and noted in this investigation.

Locations that have reported haunts and ghost sightings, does not necessarily mean that when visiting, you will see a ghost or experience paranormal activity. Most of the time paranormal investigators have to look for evidence of such haunts and ghost sightings. In most cases, specific equipment is needed to see and record these events and sightings. So, if you plan to visit these locations for pleasure and are afraid of ghost and haunts, it is unlikely that you will experience anything. There are occasions that a person would see or experience paranormal events with the naked eye, but these are not as common as one might think. In any town or any state, there are buildings that have stood the test of time. Any building that has survived through time, will and often do, experience tragic events. This does not mean that the building is unsafe and that you are likely to experience any dangers. This is just a misfortune of events that had happened and clouds the history of any building that has been in existence as long as this Hotel . So please, do not let the past events, that clouds locations like these, prevent you from enjoying the many benefits that house these buildings today. Not only are you likely to miss out on a very pleasurable experience, but you might miss out on the many benefits that are offered.

About 37 Years ago, Betsy Ward took her own life in room 505. She had filled the bathtub with water and took her life by drowning herself. She has been reported to haunt apartment 505. On occasions, those that rent the apartment have seen her apparition and sometimes she has been seen in the hallway. At present time, apartment 505 is rented and has been so for the last two years. There has been no reported sightings or paranormal activity reported by the tenants. Reported events include the shower coming on by unseen hands, the shower curtain opening by itself and the appearance of the ghost of Betsy Ward.
In room 545, a woman's ghost appears to one particular gentleman when he stays in that room. This man has reported a woman about the age of 20 years old appear to him when he is troubled. He reports that this woman's ghost lays her hands on his shoulders and ensures him, everything will be all right. It is unsure, by M.G.H.S., when the last time this gentleman has experienced a visit from this woman.
In early Kansas City history, tunnels had been constructed underneath the city, for use of courier service. Today, most of the tunnels have been filled in or have collapsed. The basement of this hotel is home to such collapsed tunnels. Sometime back in history, 3 people on 3 different occasions lost their life when a tunnel collapsed on them. One gentleman in particular, known as the "Man in the purple jacket" was one of those 3. His ghost has been sighted in the basement. He is described as a man of about 60 years old, with gray hair and beard. He is also reported wearing a purple jacket.
Odd sounds, unexplained noises and loud crashes have been reported from the staff as coming from within the basement. On several occasions, while employees have entered the basement to retrieve supplies, have seen the ghost of the "Man in the purple jacket".
There has been one ghost sighting of a former manager by the name Donald. He had lost his life in 1990, while he was doing book work, late in the evening. His ghost was seen in the basement of the hotel on one occasion. His unfortunate death occurred one night while finishing up book work for the evening. A man entered his office and stabbed Donald 37 times. The assailant was later captured and sentenced.

This photo is the short hall of the L shape hallways on the upper floor of the Hotel. This area has been closed off for numerous years. As you can see in the photo that this area has not been remodeled. Mysterious men's voices, phantom footsteps, and a mysterious shadow captured on photo was detected there.

Our team, to include two young men from Lee Summit High School, who is working on a video presentation for the school audio visual department, arrived at the hotel at about 5:00 p.m. We entered the front doors and it was as if entering into the past. You could just imagine this hotel in the 1800's and how elegant it would appear to those traveling. Although, the hotel is going through some major renovating, it still held an 1800's charm to its luster. After the tour, our team decided we would concentrate on the 7th floor apartment, with covering the basement and key areas through out the night. After making our way to the 7th floor, we encountered a place that had not been touched or used since the 1930's. Shadows of history lingered in every room and echoes of the past could be heard with each step taken. The dark shadows of the night danced on the walls from an occasional light from a flashlight, as team members were conducting a walk through. Something was different, yes, most of us could feel it. A presence was among us. There were no power and no heat. Laid out, were two main hallways in an L shape, off of these hallways were different rooms. One of these rooms contained an elevator shaft that is considered to be haunted. Many employee's have heard an elevator traveling up and down, as if carrying passengers to the perspective floor, even though the elevator carriage had been removed years prior. We set up the Inferred Sony Night shot at the L intersection of the hallway, this would allow us a direct line of site to both hallways. About one hour into taping, Linda and I heard men's voices coming from either the abandoned elevator shaft or the short section of the L shape hallway. It was apparent that the voices were within the same area as us, but their exact location was as described above. The voices were muffled, but distinctive to men talking among them selves. Later, an employee, who is the hotel historian, advised us that the 7th floor was last used during W.W.I by the "Doughboys". These men could see Union depot from the 7th floor and be able alert when the train came in. We held this information in our mind as a possibility to the men's voice, for no echoes of voices could have traveled up the shaft from current guest or employees. This shaft is not accessible to guest or employees, unless they were standing at the bottom end of the elevator shaft, that is located in the many twist and turns in the basement. The hotel had been renovated and walls were placed where the elevator used to drop off passengers. Let it also be noted, that many employees will not enter the basement, unless absolutely necessary. Although we have no evidence to prove that these voices were that of a paranormal nature, armed with the information and layout we have on the hotel, we are leaning toward, "it was". It remained quiet for sometime, for the exception of capturing orbs in photographs and an occasional unexplained crash.

At about 7:30 p.m. we went into the basement to continue our investigation. The basement was a colossal of twist and turns, filled in tunnel entries, and many rooms. The area showed us that it was indeed an area that was not used, unless absolutely necessary, it showed signs of vacant elements taking over. Photographs of the basement revealed orbs in two of the rooms and you could again feel as if someone unseen was among us.

The Visitor

9:30 p.m.: We went to the 1st floor for awhile and the 4 young men from the High School wanted to stay up on the 7th floor and record paranormal activity. We had been on the 1st floor for approximately 2 hours, when the 4 young men came walking around the corner to where we were. They began to tell us what they had just experienced and you could see the excitement in there face. They reported that they heard mysterious noises and on one occasion, they heard a door slam. Steam began to pour out in various rooms of the 7th floor and they also stated to have seen a red misty figure in the hallway. We headed up to the 7th floor to investigate the reports from these young men. When we opened the door, you could hear a hissing sound coming from several rooms. We walked to each room that had that sound coming from them and found that the old steam coil heaters were operating and that they were venting steam. This brought an interesting twist to our investigation. For later in the evening, when an employee, witnessed these heaters on, he had informed us that these heaters pipes are unhooked and capped in the basement and it is impossible for them to be working. He went on to say that, all the power and heat had been shut off to this floor years ago. This made since to us, for we had been there since about 5:30 p.m. and it was now nearing midnight and those heaters only turned on at about 11:00 p.m. If they had been hooked up and in working order, they would have come on way before 11:00 p.m., so this brought some merit to the events that these young men had told us. We further investigated those heaters and found when they vented, they were venting extremely cold air. The coils were also very hot and the pipes were carrying heat. But, if you were to follow the pipes to the basement, you would find them not hooked up and capped off.

After checking out the 7th floor, some employee's came up and were telling us different stories that had occurred in the past relating to ghost sightings. We were then given a tour of the basement on the kitchen side, which is not accessible from the other basement that we had checked out earlier. It was now nearing 1:00 a.m. and we wanted to get back up to the 7th floor. Upon our arrival, the heaters were still coming on in random order to different rooms through out the floor. You could hear every few minutes or so, as one would kick on in one room, only for another to kick on in another a few minutes later. We all stood about mid way in the hall and listened as the heaters hissing became louder and louder, the coming on off the heaters were now not every few minutes or so, but constantly from room to room, the noises from the hissing were getting louder. Faster and faster the hissing and knocking of the heaters began to move from room to room until there was a solid and constant sound of hissing and knocking as they jumped from room to room. On the left and right end of the hall, windows in several rooms began to slam as they were lifted outward and let go to slam against the sill. First the left, then the right, Hissing and knocking traveled from room to room, more windows on our right, then our left, lifted and slammed. The windows and the hissing and knocking moved so swiftly that it was a constant "Slam"! "Hiss"! "Knock"! We stood listening, our heads turning left, then right, following each noise at it occurred. You could sense a presence up there at both ends of the hallway. The heaters and windows now moved in time, then in an instant. "QUIET", "Everything stopped", No windows slamming and no heaters venting. Complete silence filled each and every room. We stayed up on the 7th floor for about an hour longer and the heaters never kicked back on and we only heard an occasional slam from something on the 7th floor. We all knew without a doubt, what we had just experienced was not man made, but that from the paranormal realm.

Note: During this experience and there after, not one of us ever felt in danger or threatened. We felt the activities that occurred, was nothing more then games being played with us by what ever spirits were up there among us. After our investigation, the maintenance crew checked out the heater system for the 7th Floor and have reported that indeed, the heater system is unhooked, capped and not in working order.
